Release Notes

Public release notes summarize user-facing changes, fixes, and documentation updates for each PDF Auditor release.

PDF Auditor updates are delivered through the Mac App Store.

v1.22

  • New: PDF Auditor Docs, Troubleshooting, and Release Notes are now registered with macOS Help menu search, so you can find those manual pages directly from the Help menu.
  • Fix: dependency updates address OpenSSL and website build-chain security advisories.
  • Polish: minor UI tweaks and improvements.

v1.21

  • New: PDF Auditor now checks the Mac App Store for newer versions in the background and shows an Update Available action in the File menu and PDF toolbar when an update is ready.
  • New: PDF 2.0 Projection and Rich Media annotations are now identified by name with dedicated icons instead of appearing as Unknown annotation types.
  • New: lazy thumbnail loading keeps large PDFs responsive by rendering the first page previews immediately, then filling in the rest as you scroll.
  • Fix: image preview Fit mode now upscales small embedded images to use the available preview space.
  • Polish: Home stays out of the native macOS toolbar while remaining available in the sidebar and menus, and PDF load progress text is clearer.

v1.20

  • New: Show Page Geometry view mode — toggle it from View › Show Page Geometry or the toolbar button to expose content hidden outside the CropBox. It dims the cropped region and outlines every page box (Media, Crop, Bleed, Trim, and Art). It is an inspection aid for auditing what a PDF hides via cropping, and your file is never modified.
  • Fix: the app now honors the macOS Reduce Motion accessibility preference — the Size Analysis donut and the Forensics phase spinner stay static when it is on.
  • Polish: mixed-size PDFs now center horizontally on first render.

  • WCAG AA contrast for severity, risk, permission, and annotation colors.
  • Dynamic Type and Larger Text scaling.
  • Icons paired with color so meaning is not conveyed by color alone.
